Inspecting a Septic System

Septic systems inspections are required for a number of reasons

An inspection to verify that a system is adequate for the building that is being connected to it may be required when:

a) connecting or reconnecting power to an existing building

b) for a building permit if the house is being renovated or an addition built on

c) for a building permit when a new structure is being connected to an existing system

These inspections would typically be done by a Qualified Person or Professional Engineer.

In recent years, it is becoming more common for a buyer to have the function of the septic sytem assessed during a real estate transfer to investigate the condition of the components and give an estimate of the system's capabilities.

WWNS recommends you always use a certified professional who have completed a training course recognized by Nova Scotia Environment and Climate Change to perform these inspections.
